This past week the PVKC 3rth grade students attended Elevate Kids Camp! The leaders were thrilled about the life change and challenges that were presented to the kids during the weekend. This year they talked about becoming who God wants them to be. Each day the kids discovered a new way that God sees them through word pictures found in the Bible. The first was clay, second was sheep and last was salt.

The evening services were amazingly powerful! It was awesome to see the kids worship each night with all their hearts. Tears were flowing down some of the children's faces and hands were raised as we worshiped our Creator. Each night they broke into small groups and discussed the service. Small groups were definitely the meat and bones for camp. It was there that many of the students opened their hearts and shared their stories and hardships. They also expressed the desire to become who God wants them to be.

Elevate Kids Camp this year was a big win and many lives of children will never be the same. Thank you all for your prayers, encouragement, and ideas for camp.

We left Khon Kaen early Friday morning and piled into three mini-busses. The ride was around four hours long and through beautiful countryside. We drove through mountains, in the jungle and through a national park.

Once we got to Ban Meata Phetchabun we ate lunch and met the Australian volunteers who run the children's home. The children's home in Phetchabun is a little different from the children's home in Khon Kaen. Khon Kaen is for children who are HIV positive and is in a large city so they can be close the hospital. The children go to a public school on the property next to the orphanage. Phetchabun is set up like a children's village with little houses and buildings in strategic places. The children live in the houses with kids their age and a house parent. They are all together for playtime and meals though. The children at Phetchabun attend a Christian school run by Mercy International on the same Ban Meata property. It is called Meata Chanupatham Christian School. The children who attend this school get a very good quality education and are taught English. It is open to anyone who wants to attend. Currently they have over 1,200 students, some of which are Buddhist.

We ate dinner with the kids and then did a program for the teenagers. We did some skits and games and then made bracelets with them. The bracelets they were supposed to give away as a gift to a friend. The teenagers had a lot of fun with the program and being creative with the bracelets.

The Thailand team is doing wonderful, and is getting the opportunity to share in some- stretching opportunities this week!

After leaving Ban Maeta they went to the Khon Kaen Night Market. The Night Market is located on a huge street that is blocked off at both ends, filled with street vendors selling everything from clothes, movies and music to fruit, Thai food, and bugs.

So... I bet you're wondering what they ate. A lot of bugs and a really strange fruit were on the menu!

First they ate crickets. Crunchy and tasty. Then large grasshoppers. Followed by durian, a yellow fruit that smells like rotten eggs, but actually tastes good. It is a little stringy on the outside and like a custard on the inside. It was definitely as strange as it sounds. Surprisingly though, it was good and tasted nothing like it smelled.

They finished the evening with grubs. Seriously, they ate grubs! To get rid of the grub taste, they ate more crickets :) Yum! And then finished it off with some favorite fruits: dragon fruit and lychee.

The Experience has been amazing, and we look forward to all that God will be doing this week in Thailand, through the use of His people!

Today we woke up to the sound of motorbikes and people outside speaking Thai. After we had breakfast, we explored the area around our hotel and found some Buddhist temples.

We left Bangkok and flew to Khon Kaen at 12:40. Jain met us at the airport. He is going to be with us all week translating for us (When he isn't translating for teams, you can find him in Phrae. He also does a lot of pictures and videos for all of the Children's Homes).

After checking in to our hotel we walked a few blocks to Ban Maeta Khon Kaen. It is a home for children who are HIV positive. We saw the buildings and had a little orientation with Kingsley and Grace. Kingsley and Grace are volunteers with Mercy International and are origionally from Australia. As soon as our orientation was over, the kids started coming home from school. I don't know who was more excited, us or them!

We played soccer and other games with them like tag, duck-duck-goose, and water balloon toss! After we could run no more, we all sat down on picnic mats to eat sticky rice with sweet chili sauce, chicken and a variety of fruits, vegetables and fun fruit drinks.

We had some entertainment afterwards from the Palm Valley team acting out funny skits and doing some crazy songs. The kids laughed and enjoyed every second of it! At the end Keith and I did an impromptu skit, complete with Thai conversation and sound effects from Nelly and Jeremy that had everyone laughing.

We prayed with the children and then enjoyed some more time playing, laughing, taking pictures and making memories we will never forget.

-Tiffany

Hot weather is not holding back progress on the new Sanctuary one bit! In the past few weeks, all 12 air-conditioning units have been set in place on the roof, and the ductwork has been completed. On the front of the building, the vestibule bump-outs (exterior entry ways) are under construction, and base foam is going up in preparation for the exterior stucco. Because 95% of the interior walls are framed in and sheetrock is being hung, the building no longer looks like a skeleton. This past week, 90% of all rough-in pluming and electrical work have been completed as well. Continuous thanks goes to God and to you for all your prayers and support of the new building!

Wow! Today was an amazing day and we accomplished so much. At 7:30 a.m., some of us got up early and climbed up the mountain behind the house. With the dog tagging along, we began our ascent up the mountain. Most of us were tired after the first 15 minutes, but when we got the top, boy was it worth it!

After we got back, we headed to a school where we did all of our dances and skits. It was so cool to see all of the kids smiling and laughing.

I shared the story of how my relationship with God has grown since my family moved from California to Texas. We also gave each student some colored pencils and a pencil sharpener.

Next was probably the most exciting part of the trip so far: the Amazing Race: Guatemala edition. We had to go to different places in the village of Santiago and complete different tasks: Buy 4 chicken heads, eat 2 avocados, take a canoe into the lake, and try on the local indigenous clothes. The first team back would be the winner and, luckily, my team won!

Once we got back to the house, we got back to work. We were sanding, tiling, washing cars, hauling wood, and some of the guys were building a fence. Tomorrow is our last day to finish our projects, so we have to hurry. See you all soon!

We ended an incredible day today happy, healthy, and grateful for what God is doing through us here in Guatemala.

By visiting a public school where we shared a few skits, some encouraging words, and gave nearly 250 students a set of colored pencils, sharpener, and coloring book. It was special to see the exicted looks on their faces as their received their gifts.

From there we headed back to the house where we spent the afternoon working on some improvement projects. Several of the younger team members did a great job sanding wooden beams inside the home, giving them a much needed face-lift.

Our talented tiling team began laying new tile in the kitchen area, and a group of men completed 2/3 of a new fence around the property for added security, and Holly gave some of the kids a swimming lesson!

It is so beautiful here. Every afternoon the clouds roll over the mountains the create a gorgeous scenery between the lush vegetation, towering volcanoes, and the lake. Looking forward to another incredible day tomorrow!

This morning we were blessed with the beautiful sun shining through our windows at 4:30 a.m. The birds chirping and the cool fresh air was so refreshing. After a wonderful breakfast, we drove to the center plaza in Santiago to share God's word. Scott Runyon and Donna Seiler shared their testimonies of how the Lord has changed their lives and how they have committed to following the Lord.

The service continued with the children singing and dancing, praising God. The plaza was filled with Guatemalans watching how joyful the children were to be dancing and singing.

The evening service was one of the most amazing parts of the day, the Lord gave many of our PVC members the opportunity to use the gifts He has given us.

Jordan Krause shared her gift of singing, and Stephanie Morales shared her inspiring testimony how the Lord has given her the strength to escape a difficult relationship. She shared with the crowd how the Lord is always with us and ready to guide us to make the right choices in our life. Greg Seiler shared his gift of speaking by preaching the Lords word of how Isaiah 40 has provided him with the guidance during difficult times.

If we want to become better at any sport we practice and practice to become proficient. The same is true if we want to build a relationship with the Lord, we must be persistent in communicating with him daily, persevering and consistently practicing by reading the Bible and getting to know Jesus everyday. Our strength will be renewed each day and we can overcome all through Him.

The service ending with those present coming forward seeking the Lord's guidance, healing and strength to help them persevere through their daily struggles. The PVC team prayed over our brothers and sisters asking the Lord to give them the strength and guidance to make each day. It is through our continued faith in seeking the Lord, "ask and you shall receive" the Lord is always there with us during those difficult times providing us with the strength we need to make it through each day.

-By Sylvia Hinojosa

On Saturday, June 5th a team of 23 people from Palm Valley Church left for Guatemala for a week long Missions trip. This past week the country has experienced a lot of calamity, between a volcano erupting and a tropical storm causing havoc on the country. We are excited to report that the team has all safely arrived, and despite the volcanic ash were able to fly directly into Guatemala. Keep the team in your prayers this week, that their ministy will be effective because people are going to be seeking God more than usual because of the dramatic life changes that have taken place this past week.

We will be receiving updates from the team members during the week, and will be posting it here on the PVC news blog, so you can keep up with all the wonderful things God is doing in Guatemala this week!

I'm so proud to be in Guatemala with 23 members of Palm Valley Church who have spent months preparing and planning for this special day. We met early this morning at the church for prayer before we headed to the airport. Tonight, we were warmly welcomed by the Stukenbergs into the beautiful country of Guatemala. We are so glad we are here this week. There is no doubt that God brought us here during a time of great need: We've already collected some ash from the recent eruption in the city, and dodged countless massive mudslides on our way to Santiago Atitlan. Over 115 people have lost their lives from the volcanic eruption and tropical storm Agatha over the last two weeks, and we have already seen the effects of these calamities with our own eyes.

It's been a long day, but we are looking forward to what God has in store for us tomorrow!

Upon taking a peek into the new sanctuary, it is obvious that a tremendous amount of work has been, and is being done. At the south end, behind the stage, all the workrooms and office areas have been framed in and installation of windows has begun. Electricians have been hard at work, setting electrical boxes throughout the structure. Looking up, it is good to see ductwork for air conditioning going into place.
More visible progress is going on in front of the building. Some sidewalks have been poured, and the face of the building is being prepared for stucco.
It is exciting to see what God is doing through your financial support of this building project! Thank you for caring. Thank you for giving.

This weekend we celebrated the servant's heart here at Palm Valley Church with the start of our new series "I LOVE MY CHURCH." Each week there are a crew of volunteers that help make the church run smooth, from directing traffic in the parking lot, to taking care of babies in the nursery.

Over 480 people are committed to serving in many capacities, week in and week out. That is something to celebrate! This week we kicked off the series with a video- honoring our volunteers! Thanks again for all you do!

The Women's Beth Moore Event was an amazing success! It was a great time for the women of Palm Valley to unite with over 300,000 other women from around the U.S. and Canada in watching Beth Moore's Telecast: So Long Insecurity. The message was powerful, the worship was enlighting, and the fellowship was a blast!

For those of you who were not able to attend the event, here are a few notes from the event:

The main text for the day was Eph. 4:1 and 4:17-24

There are 6 attributes of Security

1) A secure woman is... Saved from Herself
- We tend to think that everything revolves around us.
- The reality is that we are the ones making those assumptions!
- We take what people say and twist it, ex. you look so pretty today (interpretation, did I look bad yesterday? What do you mean by that?)
- Can humility and insecurity co-exist? No, because insecurity is its own sense of pride.

2) A secure woman is.... Entitled to Truth
- We are called to know, believe, and walk out in truth.
- Eph. 4:17-21
- Perfectionism is insecurity in art form.

3) A secure woman is....Clothed with Intention
- Insecurity takes away our dignity.
- Renew yourself daily, yesterday is gone.

4) A secure woman is....Upended by Grace
- Grace takes up the space.
- Eph. 2:8 and 4:32
- How much more likely are we to forgive if we are secure?
- Everything naturally comes to us as an offense, if we have grace, it rolls off.
- Heb. 10:19
- A lot of the time we are not bound by others, but bound by the un-forgiveness we have for ourselves and the thought that God does not forgive us.
- It dishonors God when we have disbelief in His forgiveness.
- 2 Cor. 5:17

5) A secure woman is....Rebounded by Love
- Eph. 5:2
- If a heart does not heal, it hardens.
- When bad things happen to us, we need to turn to God to help us get through it.
- You will never move an inch in insecurity if you don’t believe in God's love.
- When we know we are loved we are able to love others.
- Romans 8:28, 8:18

6) A secure woman is.... Exceptional in Life
- We all have a need for significance.
- If you renew yourself daily, you will be the exception in your generation.

It is exciting to look out the back doors of the church and observe first-hand the progress on the new sanctuary! The last slab of the foundation was finally poured, the steel superstructure erected, and workers have finished framing in doors and windows. On the exterior of the building, electricians are trenching to install parking-lot lights. Workers have finished the curbs and gutters on the east side and are now working toward the west side. With the advent of good weather, work is progressing rapidly. Thank you for your continued prayers for every facet of this construction project.

Within a single oak-tree seed is everything needed for the seed to become a towering tree. As the seed is planted in a suitable environment, it begins to grow into the full expression of its DNA. In Christ, we are regenerated and receive the very nature of Christ Himself. Similar to the process of the seed of an oak tree, as we put ourselves in environments conducive for spiritual growth, we begin to demonstrate the very nature of Christ in our daily lives. This past Sunday we kicked off our new series for 2010, Re:Generation. Throughout the series we'll be exploring the various ways in which the very nature of Christ begins to be reflected through our changed lives.

For a constant reminder of what God has done in your life, we have designed a wallpaper graphic that You can download and set as the wallpaper on your computer.

Once the image appears, right click on it and save the image.

This Holiday season it was wonderful to see how love impacted entire communities through PVC Reaches Out, as more than 100 people participated in 2 different outreaches. One group went to Colonia Pinitas here in the U.S, and another group went to a children’s home in Reynosa, Mexico.

In Mexico, the PVC team gave the children a Christmas party, complete with pizza, piñatas, and a special time of prayer. What a joy to see the children laughing, playing and having a great time!

This past Sunday, Rick preached a powerful message that emphasized, when facing failure in life, it is important to remember that we are called children of God.
1 Corinthians 6:17: I am united with the Lord, and I am one with Him in spirit.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20: I have been bought with a price and I belong to God.

Romans 8:28: I am assured that God works for my good in all circumstances.

Romans 8:31-39: I am free from any condemnation brought against me and I cannot be separated from the love of God.

2 Corinthians 1:21-22: I have been established, anointed and sealed by God.

Colossians 3:1-4: I am hidden with Christ in God.

At 2:30 this [Wednesday] morning a group on spectators awaited the arrival of the first load of concrete for the foundation of the new sanctuary.

As the pouring began, the crew worked diligently filling each section with fresh concrete, slowly building up the foundation.

They worked hard and through the night

completing one section at a time.

The numbers were astounding.

It took 72 truck loads of concrete to complete the first 1/3rd of the foundation.

That's 720 Yards of concrete!

The job was messy,

But the final product was worth it! Tonight at church drive around back and take a look, the building is starting to take shape.

So far 7,777 yards of dirt have been laid in preparation for the foundation of the new sanctuary. Last week trenches were cut out and plumbing lines were installed in the front portion of the building.
This past Wednesday, Teaching Pastor Jerrell Jobe took the stage for the first segment of the new series Philippians: Discovering God in the Midst of Life. This week we will begin to explore God’s intention for us to experience personal transformation. Many of us desire to set a goal or change in some area of our lives. Unfortunately, most of us hit a speed bump because we simply aren’t sure how or where to start. Join us this Wednesday night as we continue our study in Philippians with the teaching “Gotta Start Somewhere.”

The 2009 Ignite Men's Retreat is now behind us and we thank God for showing up in such a powerful way. From Thursday night to Sunday morning, 120 men worshiped God together, were challenged from the Scriptures, made life-changing decisions and just hung out with the guys.

Even though the retreat went by fast, there were lasting relationships and bonds built as men spent time together fishing, golfing, sharing meals, reading God's word, worshiping and praying together. Personally, I will never forget the amazing sound of men's voices in worship singing out for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. There is something special about men worshiping together. We were also reminded that "iron sharpens iron", and resolved ourselves to keep the momentum of this weekend going into our daily lives by working together to sharpen each other. To stay sharp, I encourage the men of PVC to quickly get plugged into one of our PVC Groups, especially our Men's Breakfast Fellowship which meets twice a month. Men's Breakfast dates and information are published on the PVC Events Calendar. The next Men's Breakfast is Thursday Sept 17.

This is just the beginning. God is building a community of Christian men and we are thankful to play a part in it. We will look back a year from now and will be amazed at what God has done in and through our lives, so buckle up!

Don't forget to save the dates for next years retreat, September 17-19, 2010. Also, starting today, the Palm Valley website will host the Ignite Men's blog. Check it out often, or subscribe to the feed to get ongoing news, articles and devotions.

During the course of the building project, the City of Mission has provided valuable direction and has helped speed the process along for obtaining our building permit! This week we broke ground for the initial footprint of the building, and a temporary construction fence was erected for safety. South of the construction lot, parking is available. Landscaping has been planted between the cornerstone parking lot and the church parking lot to beatify our existing property. Here are a few pictures of the ground breaking event this week!

" The greatest gift that anyone could receive is the gift of kindness. It’s been three years running that Palm Valley Church has whole heartedly provided for the students of Benavides Elementary. Their love, support, dedication and concern over the quality of education that our students have and deserve have been evident in their generous contributions throughout the years. Benavides Elementary prides itself in providing a quality education to the children of low income families in the northern Hidalgo County area. The success of the education we provide would not be possible without the essential school supplies that our students need to shine. With your support our campus will make life long learners of our students. There is no greater blessing than having members of our community come together and work towards a common goal. This indeed is a blessing that we will never forget and or take for granted. Our administration staff and our students will be forever grateful for fully supporting the commitment to excellence that Benavides Elementary represents. May GOD Bless you today, tomorrow and always."

As we wrapped up The Family Works series, we learned that we never retire from God’s plan in our lives. As long as we have breath, God has a purpose for our lives, regardless of our age. Rick’s final challenge was to finish well.

How do we finish well?

We need a whole-hearted faith - not be easily swayed by our circumstances or oppositions in life.

We need a Challenge - with God’s help we can accomplish His purpose in our lives.

Stay connected, we need relationships - gather strength from others along the same journey.

Pass the torch to the next generation - by leading by example, sharing our journey with our children, and others we cross path in our journey.

Make this your prayer today,

Lord, may my days be lived to exercise my faith whole-heartedly. May I be challenged to do things You have created me for, may I be obedient in fullfilling your purpose for my life. Even though I will face challenges, my strength is found in You. I know I am not alone in this faith journey, You are with me. You have also brought people along side to show me the way, help me to connect and nurture healthy relationships so that I may also pass the torch to those who follow. Let Your purpose be fulfilled through my life until my last breath. I commit with Your help to finish strong. - Amen.

Last Sunday was test day at Palm Valley. We graded ourselves as a family in areas such as Communication, Common Faith, Responsibility, and many more. If you haven’t done so, take the time and take the test. The hard part was that we weren’t allowed to mark a “5.” To be honest there were some areas I scored pretty good, but there were also some areas that were not so good. These areas had been left unmanaged. Rick likened the poor scores as that of a blinking light on a dash board. His challenge was to take immediate action in correcting the problem.

As he closed the message he asked for a show of hands of people who are in “only God” situations in their families. Situations where only God could change the outcome. Then, he asked for those who were in an “only God” situation and had seen God miraculously come through in the past to raise their hands and join in faith for those who were needing God’s help. I walked away with hope that as I continue to be faithful to God, and invest my time and energy in my family, that God will help me be the best I can for my family.

This quiz will allow you to assess the vitality in the home, then answer the following questions:

-Which value from your Family Health Exam is strongest in your home these days?

-Every family has areas for improvement. In your opinion, which value needs the most attention right now and why?

For the lowest rated value, describe what a “perfect 10” would be in your home. What is one thing you could do this week to help your family move toward this dream
becoming reality?

This will be a great chance to bring your family, or even a friend! In an ideal world, the family would be supported in every aspect of our lives. Unfortunately, we live in a world and culture that pulls against the home. The challenge was made for us as Christians to base our parenting off of the scripture Joshua 24:15 "But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”

Over the next 7 weeks, this Family series is designed to strengthen not only your family life, but your spiritual life as well.

Palm Valley Church has always wanted to do more across the border in Mexico. I have personally lead hundreds of evangelistic outreaches into Reynosa, and have always finished those with a yearning in my heart to do more follow up/discipleship.

José Camarillo, a Reynosa pastor who is an extremely motivated, awesome, tender- hearted, open-minded, friend, has partnered with us in ministry for about seven years. During those seven years, Pastor Camarillo’s church has planted three additional churches. These churches have good adult and youth ministry programs but haven’t had a lot going on for kids.

Enter Master’s Commission (Palm Valley Church's in-house school of discipleship). Master's Commission students have always been involved in ministry across the border, but as their director, I wanted to give them a much more in-depth missions experience. To do this, we began what we call Mexico Kids' Church (MKC).

The goal of the MKC project was twofold:

1. To give Master’s Commission students a much better picture of what it is to do missions work. (encountering cultural and language barriers, learning to be resourceful when there are no resources, doing consistent discipleship in one location versus doing only street evangelism, etc.)

2. To train children's workers from Pastor Camarillo's different churches who would be able to continue the work.

February 8th, with a combined team of Master’s students and various workers from the different churches in Mexico, we had our first meeting to cast vision. IT WAS AWESOME!!! There was a wonderful excitement in the air as we discussed the overall goal, explained what had to happen, and ended by praying together.

February 22nd, we launched eight weeks of Kids' Church that ran simultaneously with the adult services on Sundays—something that is not very common in the churches in Mexico with whom we work.

The beginning 4-week series of lessons was developed entirely by Master’s students. Each lesson was based on the armor of God as listed in Ephesians 6. The second 4-week series was developed jointly by Master’s Commission students and volunteers from the Reynosa churches. These lessons answered questions about who Jesus is.

The Reynosa volunteers have done an outstanding job! Each week they took more and more responsibility. And now, not only are they continuing Kids' ministry at the location where we worked over the last 8 weeks, but a Kids’ Church is also being started at another church as well!

Are we going to let people get in our lane?

This week's lesson in Matthew 15:21-28, we witnessed how a woman's confidence in Jesus lead her to beg for the healing of her daughter - which was socially unacceptable for the times. All eyes were on her as she related to Jesus on another level that put the disciples to shame. The disciples had never seen such a bold risk-taking love before. Jesus used this story as an opportunity to demonstrate His heart for the lost, not just the disciples. For the woman, her faith was tested. For the disciples, their response was being tested - forcing them to face themselves. The disciples had never seen such a bold risk taking love than that of the woman. Jesus replied to her "Oh woman, great is your faith." In that moment her daughter was healed.

The good news of the story is that Jesus is patient with the disciples. Even though they did not understand what He was teaching them right away, Jesus used the situation as a teaching time. Jesus' goal was to unite the world, not divide it. Jesus does not play favorites.

In a construction zone there are two lanes, and one lane eventually will merge into the other lane. In that moment, will you decide to let that other person into your lane? Will you keep looking forward and move along? We can relate this to our own lives. Who do you look in the eye, who do you not? How do you spend your money/ free time? God puts the challenge in our life: Some of us are still like the disciples, but thankfully we have a Master Teacher who is willing to be patient, even when we try and go our own way. The kingdom of Heaven is for everyone, not just a select few. We must make a conscious decision to bring His Kingdom to earth.

Palm Valley Church offers many ways to connect with other Christ Followers and to grow in the Lord. A great way to do this is by participating in a group such as Ignite Men's Breakfast, which meets every other Thursday at Viva Life Coffee Shop - 2700 N. 10th in McAllen, for an inspiring time of fellowship, Bible study, prayer, and breakfast. Last week, 26 men attended and spent time studying second Peter and encouraging each other in their walk with God. If you missed the meeting, please plan to be at the next Ignite Men's Breakfast, which will be held TOMORROW March 5th at 7:00 A.M. No sign up is required, just come; you will be warmly welcomed!

Our PVC Ignite Men's Breakfast Group has been an encouragement to all those who attend. Here are a few testimonies from men who attend the group:

" For me, this group has been a great way to meet other men in an atmosphere that encourages openness, while also offering a Biblical lesson. I had needed both, and when I lost my job, the group has provided me support when I have needed it most…seeing other men who want to know the Lord more fully, who want to learn His word more deeply is great, simply great." Doug

"These days my schedule is very busy for me. Family, work, school and other things sometimes crowds my time with my Lord and Savior. For me as a man I need to rub shoulders with other men that follow Christ; when I don't, I get knocked around a little more than I want. The fellowship with strong men of Christ will help me to face the blows that would normally make me stumble." David

“With my hectic schedule and daily stressful demands, the PVC Men’s Breakfast has been a consistent time of mid-week inspiration for me. I’m especially encouraged to see other men take an hour out of their busy schedules to get a spiritual ‘shot-in-the-arm’ of God’s Word and from praying together with other brothers.” Mike

"The fellowship, testimonies, prayers and mentorship from other Christian men has been absolutely paramount for my journey from a life of sin to spiritual freedom. Without those elements, I don’t think I would have ever found my way out of the harmful & addictive habits that dominated my life so many years ago. Men need the strength that we find in each other. The men’s breakfast continues to be a place of accountability and encouragement for me." Chuck

"I would like to say that: For me, the Men's Breakfast meetings, are an essential part of PVC. They actually are one of the main reasons why I joined our church. This is a ministry that we all as men should consider as part of our Christian lives. We are different and we need somebody to talk to and pray with, in a manner that we can not do somewhere else. This ministry has been a blessing for me. It has allowed me not only to refocus on God in my daily life, but to share some time and prayer requests with godly men." Mario

"Our PVC Men’s Breakfast group has been a real blessing. We have been studying 1st Peter; it’s amazing how relevant his gospel is to my life." Mike

"This group is a vital adjunct to men's growth. The opportunity to meet and get to know these fellows of like precious faith is key to building relationships and truly becoming part of the church. I meet someone new each week!" Bud

If the men miss a week, they can access the study on the blog. www.inspiredbythewordofgod.com.
Here at Palm Valley we have committed to participate in Lent, in anticipation of Easter. This weeks Good News will bring clarity to the message that Jesus came to preach. His desire is that we would pray, for God's Kingdom to come to earth. That it would come into our homes, jobs, Church, neighborhood, country. Do we really believe this can happen?

Acts 2:42-47
They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

In the local church today have we lost our passion? Our Zeal?
In Acts we see that Change, Love and Purpose were part of God's design for this New Community. What do you think? Are you committed to be a kingdom bringer?

February Mexico Outreach 2009

What a weekend! We were able to host over 170 students and leaders from all over TX for an outreach into Reynosa, Mexico.

I couldn't be more proud of all the Master's Commission students who served and lead with tremendous passion.

Over the weekend, God touched many lives on both sides of the border. This outreach is a good mix of camp and a missions trip. During the day, students travel across the border and minister in different colonias by doing skits and dramas.

They return to Mission each evening and attend a service geared for them with worship and a powerful message. It was neat to see students who had ministered all day be able to be ministered to each night. While God was using them to change lives through skits and dramas, He was also changing them.

One neat testimony that I would like to share is this:

There was one thirteen year old boy in particular who, after coming to an outreach and hearing the message that Jesus saves, was in tears sobbing heavily. One of the youth pastors who brought a group down went over to him and hugged him and prayed for him. What an impact the gospel can have!

I am amazed again at the power of God and how He uses us when we are willing.

For the past few weeks we have been in a Faith Building series. It seems however that there is a recurring theme from week to week: God's Promises. They’re like blank checks, waiting for you to cash. If you’re going to grow in faith, you’ve got to build it on the promises of God. Did you know that in the Bible there are over 7,000 promises? God has never broken a promise, never.

Here are a few promises from scripture that you can bank on this week:

-Philippians 4:13: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."

-Jeremiah 29:11: "'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the LORD, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'"

-Psalm 32:8 " I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you."

-Joshua 1:8: "Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful."

Series Wrap-up- Navigating Through the Last Days

For the last several weeks we have been talking about Navigating Through Life's Troubled Waters. Yesterday we wrapped up the series as we discussed Navigating Through the Last Days.
The question of the morning was: Do you believe we are living in the last days? Some people and ministries have prophesied about the last days, but it is all written in speculation. When people read through Revelation, often times they can come away from it confused. On Sunday we were challenged to take a different approach to the end times. Here are a few tips:

We must be able to recognize the figurative use of symbolism and metaphor. Do not get hung up on the image, but focus on the spiritual truth behind it.

When reading through The book of Revelation you should always start by asking yourself: What would John ( the author of Revelation) expect his readers to understand when they read this material?

Since we do live in the last days, we should take care to live holy lives worthy of Christ.

Some of the most relevant words to explaining the last days are in 2 Timothy 3:1-5:

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God- having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.

For all who follow Jesus, these days are not really the end at all. It is going to be a day of rejoicing and happiness, for the wedding of the lamb has come and his bride has made herself ready. So the challenge is to not get preoccupied with talk about the "End Times" but to be more concerned with our own hearts.

I am really enjoying the journey through the Bible that has been taking place during New Community. Last night was our third night in The Story Series as we looked at the beginning process of God building a nation starting with Abraham and Sarah. Last night we learned that it is through God's new nation, he will reveal himself and his plan to draw us near. The story describes the process of God giving Abram and Sari new names.

From this we see the importance of a name, and more so the importance of when God changes your name.

Last night we all wore name tags, on the top line we put our name, then at the end of the message we were challenged to write below the line our new name.
If God were to give you a new name today, for where you are at in your walk with the Lord, what would that new name be?

In Part 4 of "Navigating Through Life's Troubled Waters", Rick spoke on God meeting us in the furnace. It was a very powerful message that connected the three Hebrew children's (Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego) experience in the fiery furnace, with our perspective during difficult times. At the closing of the service people joined together, agreeing and praying back the words of the song, "Sweet Morning Light" by Greg Ferguson.

Here are the lyrics to the powerful song:

Lord this pathway may not be easy
But it's where I'm meant to be
In Your presence You will keep me
As my mind is stayed on Thee

I will follow through the canyons
Over mountains, across the sea
You will find me in Your footsteps
Till at last I'm home and free

Lord don't let me be dissuaded
From Your holy work in me
Till I reach Your destination
And I'm finally home and free

What a powerful proclamation. God is definitely doing a deep work in our midst. The Son of God has said to us "Follow Me", and sometimes that means into a furnace. Let it be said of us that we would not bow to our own comfort, but were willing members of the "Furnace Club".

Be sure to join us this Sunday for the conclusion of the series "Navigating Through Life's Troubled Waters"

Wednesday night was a full house as we started out in the journey through "The Story." Rick started preaching from Genesis, the beginning of creation. It is wonderful to see how this great story starts off, and how the plot twists as sin enters into the world. Even after the very first lesson, it is clear to see, that the Bible is one big love story from beginning to end, in God's attempt to draw us back to him.
Along with the message, Rick made a few book suggestions for further reading.

In Part 3 of Navigating Through Life’s Troubled Waters, Rick spoke about the Economic Storm we find ourselves in. He pointed out several myths in regards to our finances. Jesus had a lot to say about finances. It was a message that I wish everyone in our nation could hear. It was that powerful.

Here are a couple quotes from the talk:

“When crisis comes people panic because we live with an illusion of financial security.”

“Our economy has changed, the market has dropped, but HEAVEN remains UNCHANGED!”

"Godliness with contentment is great gain."

There are many more but I wanted to wrap up this blog with a few questions from yesterday:

Would you be willing to meditate on scripture so you can find security on God’s word and not public opinion?

Would you be willing to pray for someone with greater needs than your own, so you can find contentment in what God has entrusted you with?

Would you be willing to Cling to God in the most desperate of times?

Would you?

If so, just leave a comment and let us know. I know God hears our prayers and will guide us through every storm, as we place our trust in Him.

Last week ministry across the border took place as AXIS High school took about 50 people including Master's Commission into Mexico and painted another church for Pastor Camarillo. We were extremely blessed to have such hard working students and volunteers, who worked hard to get the job done quick and with excellence. We were very proud of how efficiently they worked and how clean they were. This time around we made sure to focus on the quality, we taped around all the edges and put cardboard down to catch any spills. All-in-all the church looked great and I think the students left with a great sense of accomplishment. It was amazing to see God working in their hearts as they unselfishly served without complaint or opposition.

Close to a thousand people were in attendance Wednesday night as Rick introduced our new series "The Story." He unveiled the plan to read through the Bible this year through a guided study. One thing that is going to make this study different from anything we have ever done, is the online elements that are offered! This will encourage families and groups to study and grow together. It will be a great challenge to fall in love with Scripture this year. If you missed out on this past Wednesday's message, you can still listen or download the first lesson.

Last night was an exciting night. Of course, I was beginning to wonder if we would have enough space for everyone in the Fuel Room. Yesterday, the phone kept ringing with people asking if it was too late to sign up for the Marriage class. When I left at 5:00, we had the possibility of 135 people in attendance. Then during checkin, we had quite a few people coming that said that they hadn't registered. All in all, we had 128 people attend the first class of Vital Signs. We also had 33 kids being taken care of by 6 volunteers. We had 10 volunteers from our Special Events Team that helped with decorating, greeting, checkin & powerpoint.

It's awesome to see the excitement & anticipation on people's faces as they come in, and the comments & conversations as they leave. Thanks to all who helped pull this event together, it has been a team effort!

Class 101 is an exciting time for growth here at Palm Valley. This is the place were people not only learn more about the church, but they also are given the chance to make Palm Valley Church their home. This past Thursday marked the beginning of the membership classes for the new year. The room was packed and attendance was strong as 95 people attended class 101! This is exciting and a good jump start for the new year! Did you know that last year a total of 391 people went through class 101? That is a sign of health and growth within the church. If you missed Class 101, stay tuned for an upcoming class March 5th.

This past holiday season Palm Valley Church took part in many different opportunities to give back not only to people in our community, but around the world. This year out of Missions we were able to provide the shipping costs for Christmas gifts to reach children in El Salvador. Malawi Africa received money in order to celebrate Christmas with a special meal for the orphans in the surrounding neighborhood of the church. Here in our community the church was able to participate in the Penitas Colonia Christmas giving where a team of volunteers from Palm Valley delivered boxes of food and toys to under privileged families. PVC Hometeams crossed the border to minister to needs in Reynosa Mexico as well as support given to Missionaries Randy and Donna Denton in Rio Bravo Mexico. A huge thanks to those who gave of their time and resources this Holiday Season.

It had been a while since Palm Valley Church had a service on Christmas eve. However this year, Christmas fell on our mid-week New Community Service night so we thought we would have some fun with it! We didn't know what to expect, and didn't know if people would be interested in a service on Christmas eve or not. But to our surprise over 1,000 people attended a Night of Carols and there was standing room only. The evening was filled with familiar Christmas songs to sing a long with, as well as a few special numbers that showcased musical talent from the stage. However the most powerful part of the evening was the prayer time at the end of the service. Families were able to gather together in prayer and be ministered to. That is the joy of the Holdiay season. Because God sent his son Jesus, born on Chrismas day to a lost world we have new life. We have so much to be thankful for during this season, it was a wonderful night of celebration.

On Saturday, December 13th, 101 volunteers from Palm Valley made a trip to the Peñitas Colonia to distribute over 150 Christmas boxes filled with food and gifts from members of Palm Valley Church. The boxes were given away at the colonia as a gift from the church, and the families who received them were so greatful. It was so wonderful to see the look on people's face when we gave them the boxes, it made the whole event worth it. That small box may be the only way a family could provide Christmas for their children.

This event would not be possible with out the help of all our volunteers! Many people came as a family, in fact the Pelshaw family said that this was going to be a new family tradition from now on.

This event was our first, but will not be our last! Hopefully next year we can double the boxes that we collect and distribute.

Thank you to all those who participated!
