Weekend Recap: Kingdom Love
Mar 23, 2009

Are we going to let people get in our lane?
This week's lesson in Matthew 15:21-28, we witnessed how a woman's confidence in Jesus lead her to beg for the healing of her daughter - which was socially unacceptable for the times. All eyes were on her as she related to Jesus on another level that put the disciples to shame. The disciples had never seen such a bold risk-taking love before. Jesus used this story as an opportunity to demonstrate His heart for the lost, not just the disciples. For the woman, her faith was tested. For the disciples, their response was being tested - forcing them to face themselves. The disciples had never seen such a bold risk taking love than that of the woman. Jesus replied to her "Oh woman, great is your faith." In that moment her daughter was healed.
The good news of the story is that Jesus is patient with the disciples. Even though they did not understand what He was teaching them right away, Jesus used the situation as a teaching time. Jesus' goal was to unite the world, not divide it. Jesus does not play favorites.
In a construction zone there are two lanes, and one lane eventually will merge into the other lane. In that moment, will you decide to let that other person into your lane? Will you keep looking forward and move along? We can relate this to our own lives. Who do you look in the eye, who do you not? How do you spend your money/ free time? God puts the challenge in our life: Some of us are still like the disciples, but thankfully we have a Master Teacher who is willing to be patient, even when we try and go our own way. The kingdom of Heaven is for everyone, not just a select few. We must make a conscious decision to bring His Kingdom to earth.
